A Coticule whetstone consists of layers. The Coticule top layer has thickness of between and 10mm, depending on the Coticule seam (not every Coticule seam in our quarry is of the same thickness). This Coticule layer is glued on substrate of unusable black slate. This substrate is used as base as Coticule is rather brittle material. Tiny hairline cracks may be visible along the edges of the stone. This is perfectly normal for such brittle material and it has no influence at all on the sharpening properties. Made in Belgium.
